nicholas matsakis

father to Peter, Alex, and Catherine; husband to Terri; software developer, researcher and computer enthusiast. I recently completed my doctorate in computer science at MIT CSAIL and now work as a software engineer at Amazon's search subsidiary A9. I keep a personal weblog.

Research projects I've worked on include: the Natural Log mathematical handwriting recognition engine; the Awarenex and Lilsys telepresence and awareness systems. My graduate research was in active duplicate detection with Bayesian nonparametric models.

From 2006 to 2008 I worked on web technologies for Novell including: the Bongo mail and calendar server when it was known as Hula; Mockingbird, a Firefox extension that emulated Internet Explorer APIs and behaviors to support legacy web applications; and a Firefox extension that provided support for MHTML web archives.

There are lots of ways to get in touch with me. If you use a javascript-enabled browser, this page provides a way to see my contact information. Otherwise, you can email me at nick at my-last-name dot net
